The US Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) and China Custom Info (CCI) has teamed up to investigate the business opportunities that exist in China's second tier cities. We researched data on products being imported into 14 second tier cities from 18 industries.

What we found was truly astonishing. Fourteen of China's second-tier cities account for 8% of China's population but 53% of its total imports - an enormous relatively untapped opportunity for exporters. So perhaps the critical question for companies is not whether there is second-tier city market, but which region is best for your industry or product.
